Cesar Chavez

Yesterday, I watched the Cesar Chavez movie. I didn’t know what to expect but it is truly inspirational! I had read about him and the protests he led but knew few details. My Mom then reminded me of the fact that her brothers and father were among the many workers who protested alongside him. They, like many others, worked grueling hours and received very little pay. By little I mean downright insulting.
Cesar Chavez changed that by rallying and organizing all farm workers in order to ensure that they’d all be paid a livable wage. Of course, many farm owners/growers despised Cesar Chavez because before he came along they ruled over their workers with an iron fist. They only gave in to demands after a prolonged strike began to affect profitability.
Even though Cesar Chavez and others like him accomplished a lot in their time there still remains a clear cut division between the workforce and business owner. Today’s workers (I am referring to the entire workforce in general) are paid slightly more than their parents and grandparents were. Yet, that has not stopped the inflation process.
It would be so easy to blame the government(s) or blame capitalism but it would not solve anything. Perhaps it would be best to turn our blame inward. I know none of us want to blame ourselves for anything. But it is something we must all eventually do at some point in our lives.
Only then can we begin to rectify the damage that we’ve done to ourselves and each other. Only then can we become a more united community, a more united humanity. We are more than the sum of our parts.
Long live the Revolution! Long live Mankind!

Revolt Now

Revolt like you mean it
Burn in effigy
If need be
Let them laugh
And accuse
Re-learn
Disorder
Is not fate
Plausibility
Is a factor
Revolt because
You can
Because it
Flows through
Your veins
There is no pain
Greater
Than the pain
Of oppression
Rise up
And shout
Demonstrate
Your clout
You do have Power
We do have Power
March! March on!
Revolt because we need it!
